Know the major levers
Accommodation, long-distance transport and destination choice tend to dominate the budget. Picking one or two less expensive bases or travelling just outside the most crowded peak dates can shift the trip dramatically.
Use pace as a budget tool
Rushed travel often costs more. Extra transfers, late bookings, station snacks and replacement taxis creep in when every day is overfilled. A calmer route is often both cheaper and more enjoyable.
Save without flattening the experience
A budget trip should still feel like Europe, not like a punishment. Spend on the museum, dinner, train view or neighbourhood stay that makes the trip memorable, then save on the pieces that add little value.
